While “Team Heat” has had one rude awakening today: Denton, TX is WAAYYY hotter than the weather forecast made it out to be, we are psyched to finally be living this highly anticipated week!
Our drive up was tremendous. Tim later complained of loss of circulation in his recently ligament torn leg (which supposedly caused bruising) but other than that I would say we all had a blast! A 12-hour drive felt much more like a 4-hour drive. Where did all this time go you might ask? A good three hours was dedicated to riddles, some good some lame but all inevitably solved. Another good 2 hours played with alphabet games. And then more time spent with pillow fights, stare contests, and a little shuteye.
Lunch was such a blessing! We want to genuinely thank Mrs. Rachel and Mr. Tony for supplying lunch for our group. It was delicious and really was just what we needed to hit that hungry spot in our stomachs! It really turned some crabby passengers into happy larks! Thank you so much!
After arriving in Denton we went straight to Victory World Outreach of Denton’s new building! It is huge, fabulous, and really a great place for a massive revival! It used to be a dance club and Karla told us that a new couple in the church used to party at the club so they are really excited to be coming to the same building for a whole new reason! There was also lots of ‘garage sale’ stuff around. At first we all kind of wondered why they had golf clubs, racks of clothes, and old desks in the middle of the sanctuary. Then we were told that they have been doing garage sales every week to raise money for the remodeling of the building. While doing the sales they have drawn many curious people into this new building wondering what was going to come of their old hang out. At least 5 people have already attended Sunday services after being preached to at their garage sale. It is amazing to see how God uses a need, like a garage sale, for an outreach. He is amazing!
Many members were hard at work fixing walls and scraping tedious carpet glue off the floors when we got there. We were able to get right to work for a few hours. Connor and Brad really showed us all up getting that glue off the floor in a jiffy.
The church members are great and I am proud to report that they all use the word “Y’all”, like really, all of them do!
During this time at the church we had some hotel trouble. Our leaders went to negotiate a new hotel, which is our humble abode at the present time (equipped with all the necessities, AIR CONDITIONING!) We were also able to practice the “Everything” skit, which came together fairly quickly and with more tweaking will be ready for the stage. We really couldn’t have done it without Gabby directing the entire thing. I have a newfound admiration for Gail being thrown around the stage; you really make it look so easy!
We are having a great time! Thank you for all your prayers! This is already proving to be an opportunity of a lifetime!
